FAQ'S
Common Questions Answered
How often do we need a warehouse racking inspection ?
You should have your warehouse racking inspected as soon as possible following installation and ideally before the racks are even loaded, and then following any significant layout or operational changes,
After the initial inspection you should continue to have your racking inspected regularly at intervals of not more than 12 months (ref HSG76 'Warehousing & Storage, and SEMA guidelines).
Who can complete our annual racking inspection?
You must have your annual inspections completed by a SARI (SEMA Approved Racking Inspector) or a similarly qualified competent person.
A SARI qualification is recognised by the HSE as conferring competence and adhering to the standards as set out by SEMA.
How often is a Competent Person Inspection required?
Competent Person inspections, also known as 'expert' inspections, are required at least annually.
In some applications they may need to be more frequent i.e. in high activity applications or where the incidence of damage is significantly higher than normal.
Are Racking Inspection Services inspectors qualified?
Yes. The inspection will be carried out by a fully qualified SARI (SEMA Approved Rack Inspector).
Inspectors are required to undergo regular CPD so are always fully up to date with industry standards and guidelines. The SARI qualification is recognised by the HSE as a 'Technically competent person'.
Does the Racking Need to be Empty for an Inspection?
No, the racks do not need to be offloaded prior to inspection.
The inspection is based on what is visible from the aisle at the time of inspection so we always ask that aisles are clear, any 'clip on' type guards that fit directly to the uprights are removed and pallets - particularly in ground locations - are not stacked hard up against uprights since this prevents inspection of the frame bracing and rear elements of the structure.
If we can't see it we can't inspect it!
Some clients schedule their inspections to coincide with periodic low stock levels, shut downs, or simply when the warehouse is not busy to aviod everyone getting in each others way.
